Student Association 2020/21
Posted on 14 July 2020

The new Student Association (SA) committee for the academic year 2020/21 has recently been announced.

The SA committee represents the views of our 3,700 strong student body.  As well as organising brilliant fundraising events such as ‘RAG Week’ and ‘Children in Need Day’, the committee arranges ‘Freshers' Week’, a fun-filled week packed with fantastic activities to help new students settle into College life.  The President and Vice President also attend the College’s Academy Quality Council meetings to have a real say on the future direction of the College.  This way of engaging with the students to make Farnborough ‘student-led’ has a long and successful history.

Due to the College closure at the end of March in response to the Government lockdown guidelines, the process of becoming a member of the SA committee was very different!!  Those students who had applied to be a member of the committee were interviewed at the end of June via Google Meet by Russell Hume, Personal Tutor and Beverley Brown, College Services Manager, who manage the SA.  A total of 14 candidates were interviewed and we are pleased to announce that all of them will be committee members for the upcoming year!

The 2020/21 Student Association Committee are:

Zoe Anderton
Elspeth Blake
Alex Dicksee
Jesica Gurung
Siofra Hamill
Max Moore
Adwoa Owusu-Sarfo
Charlotte Pickford
Neelabhra Silsarma
Jamie Sweetman
Ayla Syed
Kaitlin Wells

The role of President was given to Angelo Dela Cruz and Vice President went to Bob Wilde.

Angelo, who studies English language, law and philosophy commented, “I am incredibly honoured for this opportunity to be your SA President.  I cannot thank everyone enough for helping me throughout this process.  I can’t wait to start working with the new committee to ensure this year is an incredible one!”

Bob, who studies computer science, economics and maths said, "I am ecstatic to be representing the College as this year's SA Vice President.  It's full steam ahead now!  I will be supporting Angelo to the best of my ability to provide a fantastic college experience for everyone!"

The newly elected SA will be working alongside the current SA over the next few weeks to allow a thorough handover and will attend training sessions with key members of College staff.  Follow the SA on Twitter and Instagram, @farnboroughsa, to keep up to date with what they are doing.
