Zonta International, a leading global organisation of professionals empowering women worldwide, encourages young women to develop their leadership potential and recognise achievement through a program of awards. One such award, The Young Women in Public Affairs Award, is open to young women aged 16-19 who can show leadership potential, a commitment to their community and an awareness of women’s human rights and equality in the UK and beyond.
We are delighted to announce that, for the second year running, both the winner and the runner up were applicants from Farnborough! Second year student, Abbie Marsh was awarded first place for the Guildford Club Award, she was presented with a cheque for £250. Second year student, India-Rose Marriott was this year’s runner up. Congratulations to both of them.
Abbie Marsh said, "When my tutor first suggested that I apply for the Zonta Young Women in Public Affairs Award, I had never heard of Zonta International. After some research, I found out about all of the great work they do for women and girls around the world, such as helping to try and end child marriages and saying no to violence against women. I am very proud to be able to say I won the Zonta Guildford Club Award and be associated with an organisation that supports such great causes.”
Russell Hume, Personal Tutor commented, “It’s great to see our long-standing association with Zonta International continue. As an organisation they are very active globally in promoting issues, rights and opportunities for young women - and it is extremely gratifying that they recognise how we at Farnborough are helping to cultivate female role models. Having had both the Guildford Club winner and runner-up in 2019 was fantastic, and it is wonderful that the College has been able to repeat the achievement in 2020. Huge congratulations to Abbie and India.”
Helen Lee, Chair of Zonta Guildford said, “What an impressive field of engaged and committed young women you have at Farnborough! We were most taken with the quality of Abbie’s and India’s applications and their various contributions both at College and within their community.”
