A level English students have recently been awarded for their entries in the local round of the Rotary Young Writer Competition 2020.

The competition is a well-established national event organised by Rotary International, Great Britain and Ireland. This year the competition brief was for entrants to write a short piece on the theme of ‘Connections’.

Three students, who are now in their second year at College, received awards:

Jess Mason who was the winner in the Senior age group; Ellie-Kate Halsey whose piece was ‘Highly Commended’ and Raya Rasic whose piece was also ‘Highly Commended’.

Carla Biteanu, who completed her studies at the College this year, was also ‘Highly Commended’ for her submission.

Jess commented, “I was so excited to find out that my piece had been selected as a winner. The whole thing was such a great experience and I am so grateful that my poem was recognised.”

Grainne Thomas, Senior Curriculum Manager for English said, “Our English students have demonstrated the balance of technical skill and subjective judgement that creative writing requires. I’m delighted that once again the College has done so well in this competition.”

Mary Madine from Farnborough’s Rotary Club congratulated students on their success and creativity.
