The European Day of Languages is celebrated across Europe annually on the 26 September. It was set up by the Council of Europe in 2001 and has been celebrated every year since.
The aim of the European Day of Languages is to alert the public to the importance of language learning and diversify the range of languages learnt in order to increase plurilingualism and intercultural understanding. The day also highlights the rich linguistic and cultural diversity of Europe and encourages lifelong language learning in and out of school.
To mark the day, Sam Cook, Equality and Diversity Coordinator at the College, organised for a group of staff and students to create a short video to say “hello” and “welcome to the College” in different languages. These languages included Nepalese, Swahili, Welsh and Luxembourgish.
