Performing Arts Variety Performance
Posted on 09 December 2020

Our second year BTEC performing arts students recently took to the stage for the first socially distanced performance of this academic year. Taking place in the Prospect Theatre, the students displayed a range of diverse disciplines, performing original songs, dances and comedy sketches.

Tasked with creating their own original variety acts, the students have been hard at work devising these pieces which were thought-provoking, heartfelt and often hilarious. As well as devising their own performances, the students had to design their set, costumes and technical elements! With inspiration taken from everything from ‘Les Misérables’ to ‘Gavin and Stacey’, students wowed the department and their classmates with their outstanding versatility, enthusiasm and commitment.

Emily Southwell, Curriculum Manager for performing arts commented, “Creating new performances during these challenging times can be particularly difficult, but the students overcame these hurdles with ease to deliver a fantastic evening of entertainment. As an audience watching, we felt every emotion possible and it was a welcome source of live theatre that we have all been starved of.”
