At the end of last year, graphic design students were given the opportunity to design a poster that encourages the public to consider a career as an allied health professional.

The competition called, ‘I See the Difference’, is part of an initiative funded by the Office for Students as part of the Strategic Interventions in Health Education Disciplines (SIHED) programme.  The SIHED programme is a three-year initiative to help raise awareness of allied health disciplines, and in particular strengthen the sustainability of four smaller professions: podiatry, therapeutic radiography, prosthetics and orthotics, and orthoptics.

The poster needed to be an original creative piece of artwork – anything from a painting to a photo collage, and were judged on the following criteria; creativity in approach, content and effective communication.  Whilst creating the posters, students were encouraged to research and learn about the fantastic career opportunities that allied health professions provide.

We are pleased to announce that first year student Ronis Rai’s paramedic poster was chosen as one of the winning designs – congratulations!  Ronis’ work earned him a £50 Amazon voucher.

Ronis commented, “I chose to focus my poster on the profession of paramedics.  They are very important as they are the first medical responder to an emergency situation and provide specialist care and treatment to patients who have been involved in accidents, emergencies or other crises.  Inspired by how they need to be quick and always ready to go, I chose to make the centre image someone ready to leave creating a sense of movement.  For the colours, I used the iconic yellow and green used on the ambulances, and for the text colour, I decided to use a warm orange colour which stands out and draws the eye to the information."
