Rotary Young Artist Competition 2021
Posted on 31 March 2021

First year fine art student, Lily Moore has recently been awarded first place in the senior group of the Rotary Young Artist Competition 2021 for her acrylic painting entitled ‘Flying Solo’.

Entrants are tasked with producing a two-dimensional unframed piece of artwork, no bigger than A2 size, using either pen and ink, paint, collage or print-making. To accompany the submission, each entrant must give a brief description of how their piece relates to the theme which, this year, was ‘Wild Nature’.

The competition is a well-established national event organised by Rotary International, Great Britain and Ireland. The aim of the competition is to encourage young people to be creative, develop skills in using traditional and contemporary media, demonstrate interpretation of a topic and express personal ideas through a selected medium. This is the first time the College’s fine art department has entered the competition, which was promoted by Farnborough’s Rotary Club.

Lily said, “I am really proud of the piece! Winning this competition has given me the confidence in my art that I have been lacking, especially in the last year.”

Paul Ayres, Curriculum Manager of fine art commented, “Lily’s piece is beautiful - her success is clearly well deserved.”
