The Water Street Fund is a private, charitable fund that has recently been established by one of the College’s long-standing supporters. One of the Fund’s main objectives is to help young adults who want to progress from college into the next stage of their education or training, but whose circumstances make that difficult to do so.
The Fund offers a limited number of small grants each year. The potential type of education or training that the fund considers is wide - it could be higher education, further education, a trade/profession apprenticeship or a specialist course such as in medicine, science or sports.
This year, the fund was offered to second year bursary students - in total, 12 students applied with six being successful. Each student received between £500 and £1000. They are all planning to go to university next year and will be using their grant to help towards course fees and purchasing books and equipment that will allow them to achieve their full potential.
Matthew Thorne, the Personal Tutor who coordinated the fund in College, commented, “The Fund and I were really impressed by the standard of the applications the students made and how well they had thought through what they would use any money they received on - congratulations to all the recipients!”
We hope that this partnership between the Water Street Fund and The Sixth Form College Farnborough will continue to help more students in years to come.
