Summer of Psychology
Posted on 13 October 2021

The summer term is always full of activities in the Psychology Department and this year was no exception. During June, the department ran a competition to design a logo and banner for this year’s Psychology Week, which takes place every November at the College. The competition had a number of great entries, but second year student Kaera Floro was voted unanimously as the winner – congratulations Kaera! You can view her design above.

As well as the logo competition, students were given the opportunity to apply to be part of the editorial team for an extremely important psychology leaflet. A number of students applied but just nine students were chosen: Sophie, Maisie, Anita, Julia, Chloe, Lottie, Sophia, Sophie and Darcey. They worked together to create an amazing resource for prospective students to access during the virtual Getting Ready for College experience back in June. The group had to decide on the content as well as the design of the leaflet. They needed to be able to manage their time efficiently, work to deadlines and have good communication skills – which they certainly did! Well done to all of them! You can view the leaflet here.

To finish the summer term, over 180 students took part in a brand new Oxford University research project about how reading experiences influences how we read words. Our students were asked to take part by Oxford University researcher Dr Nicky Dawson. Nicky has supported the College’s Psychology Week since it started in 2016 and we’re grateful to her for always thinking of our students.
