At the beginning of October, the 2021 Mathematical Olympiad for Girls was held. The event, run by the UK Mathematics Trust, was introduced in 2011 to help schools nurture the talents of enthusiastic young female mathematicians. The competition consists of five questions which each require a full written solution. Nationally, there were more than 2000 students who took part in this highly challenging mathematical examination, which they sat at their school or college under exam conditions. The top scoring students received a Certificate of Distinction or Certificate of Merit depending on their score.
We are delighted with the success of our students in this event, and the excellent standard of mathematics they were able to demonstrate. Two first year students, Alice Routley and Immy Anderson, achieved ‘Merits’, and one second year student, Isabelle Cole, achieved ‘Distinction’. Congratulations to all of them!
