It was all smiles when it came to collecting certificates
A number of our students have been taking part in the highly competitive 'National Maths Competitions' run by the UK Maths Trust, which see 700,000 students take part across the UK.
The 'Mathematical Olympiad for Girls' entry is restricted to the most able mathematicians across the country, and involves completing five challenging problems. We were able to enter four students this year and are pleased to report that they were awarded two distinctions and one merit!
For the 'Senior Maths Challenge' we had 350+ students who took part, 17% of our students were awarded gold certificates, 34% silver, 36% bronze, (cf 11%, 22%, 33% nationally), with our 58 top scoring students achieving well enough to progress to the 'Andrew Jobbings Senior Kangaroo' round.
The top 1000 students in the country qualify for the 'British Mathematical Olympiad Round One'. We had four students who qualified, and we entered a further eight. These students performed extremely well and were awarded three distinctions and four merits.
The top 100 students in the country are invited to take part in the 'British Mathematical Olympiad Round Two' ,which is an entry point to the training and selection programme for international competition.
We had one student who performed so well that he has been invited to join this elite group, very many congratulations to Lachlan Corfield, Second year student for such an impressive achievement.
