The Pooley's Aviator Sword is awarded to an individual who has demonstrated determination and outstanding strength of character in their pursuit of flying, earning them the title of Aerobility's Aviator of the Year. This year the award was presented to Sammy Austen-Jones second year student.

It was presented at the Aviators Ball, (aviation charity Aerobility's major fundraising event this year), which raised £120,000. The Sword was presented by Sqn Ldr Jon Bond, Red 1 and Team Leader of the RAF's aerobatics team, The Red Arrows.

When asked about the work he does with Aerobility Sammy said "As well as receiving my Private Pilot's Licence this year, I have volunteered with the charity for over a year, including occasionally dressing up as Wilbur, the charity's mascot at events such as Farnborough Airshow. I am also one of the seven appointed ambassadors for the charity and work very closely with their youth programmes too."
