Musical Theatre - Cry Baby Performance
Posted on 30 January 2025

Our performing arts and and drama students recently put on a performance of 'Cry Baby' based on the John Waters film. Set in 1950s Baltimore, following the story of Wade "Cry-Baby" Walker, a rebellious teenager considered the "coolest kid" in town, and Allison Vernon-Williams, a "good girl" from a wealthy family who falls for him despite the social divide between their "Drape" (rebellious) and "Square" (upper class) groups, leading to a whirlwind of forbidden love and teenage rebellion amidst a backdrop of rock and roll music and societal clashes. *London Theatre Direct

Ellis Simmonds, Performing Arts and Drama and Theatre Studies Subject Tutor reflected on the show. "MTE's production of Cry Baby was a true highlight of the year! With a cast of 90 talented students and a dedicated flexi crew of 22, this show was a true celebration of teamwork, passion, and creativity. Every performer brought energy and commitment to the stage, showcasing their incredible talents and bringing this vibrant story to life. Behind the scenes, the crew worked tirelessly to ensure the production ran seamlessly. We are immensely proud of everyone involved, for their hard work, dedication, and the supportive spirit they fostered throughout the process. Cry Baby was a resounding success, selling out all 3 nights, and a testament to what can be achieved when we come together to create something extraordinary!"
