The buzz and excitement throughout the College was palpable last week when we held our annual Culture Day Celebrations in the Quad.
Designed for us to come together as a College community and celebrate what makes us different, Culture Day is a much anticipated event which has been running since 2022. It is led and managed by our events team and the SU and is made up of a variety of performances, stalls selling authentic food and drinks, henna stands and a catwalk where students bring in their national flags to display proudly.
This year's performances included traditional afrobeats and Nepalese dances, a rendition of the popular song ‘Turn Hi Ho’ and a religious prayer in the form of a song.
Emma Hobbs, Assistant Principal for Partnerships and Progression reflected on the event saying “ The day was a reflection of our truly vibrant and inclusive community. It provided an opportunity for both students and staff to come together and celebrate through music, dance, song, poetry, fashion, crafts and food. A special thank you to our Student Union and Events and Outreach team for organising this wonderful event, a highlight for all in our College calendar!”
Gabi Reigh, Diversity and Equality Coordinator mentioned “Culture Day gets more and more exciting each year as students from different communities introduce us to their heritage through their performances, traditional clothes and delicious food. It’s such a powerful and moving event and I love seeing how open and receptive all the students are to learning about each other’s background. ”
All in all it was a great afternoon and we are looking forward to doing it all again next year!
