Students in the library at the French Institute

Our Year 12 French students enjoyed a cultural outing to the French Institute in London, a key destination for lovers of French language and culture in the UK.

The day began with a screening of À la belle étoile, a French film based on the true story of a young man who overcomes a difficult childhood to become a world-class pastry chef. The story provided a rich opportunity to hear authentic French and learn about French gastronomy in a cinematic context.

Following the film, students were given a guided tour in French of the Institute’s stunning library, which is home to the largest collection of French-language resources in the UK. Students explored various sections and began to gather ideas and inspiration for their Independent Research Projects, a key component of their A level studies.

Alice Gifford, Curriculum Manager for French said, "The visit was a fantastic opportunity to experience French culture first-hand and deepen language learning beyond the classroom."
