We have recently unveiled a breathtaking mural at Farnborough North train station which has been created by of first year fine art students and a team of student volunteers under the guidance of Penny Willis who teaches fine art here at the College.
This event celebrated the culmination of a, year-long project in which the students created a mural to provide a visual celebration of Railway 200 which marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of the modern railway and celebrated the past, present and future of rail.
The students poured a year of hard work and creativity into designing and creating this vibrant artwork which beautifully intertwines the area's rich local nature and heritage.
This project was made possible with funding from GWR and the steadfast support of the Southeast Communities Rail Partnership.
The grand opening was a true community celebration, attended by the Deputy Mayor of Rushmoor, local dignitaries, and, most importantly, the visionary students who brought this mural to life.
Paul Ayres, Curriculum Manager for fine art said, “We are incredibly proud of the amazing, inspirational artwork our students have created. It is a stunning addition to the station that will be enjoyed by many for years to come!”
Sara Grisewood from Southeast Communities Rail Partnership added, “It was a real pleasure to work with staff and students at The Sixth Form College Farnborough. It was a fascinating journey seeing the ideas develop from the original brief. The references to wildlife around the railway line and to local railway history have helped create a piece of artwork which has many layers, textures and colours. It is an absolute triumph and demonstrates the very high quality of the teaching at the College and the talent of the students.”
