All set for launch

On 18 April, a team of three physics students - Iman, Joshua and Lamar -  represented the College at the UKROC regional launch event in Chippenham, delivering an impressive performance in a highly competitive field.

With clear skies and ideal launch conditions, the team’s rocket lifted off cleanly - a significant achievement in itself, especially as several teams were unable to get airborne on the day. Although the rocket later veered off course, the successful launch remained a real accomplishment and a testament to the students’ hard work, problem-solving and engineering skill. Only 7 of the 22 launches progressed in the competition, highlighting just how challenging the event was.

The experience offered the students a valuable taste of real-world engineering, from design and testing through to the pressures of launch day. Their commitment and teamwork shone through, and the event has undoubtedly sparked an even stronger passion for aerospace and engineering within the group.

A huge well done to the students involved, and sincere thanks to their mentor from Surrey University and the dedicated staff who supported the project from start to finish. This video captures the moment their hard work quite literally took flight.
