On the weekend of 17-19 April, sixteen Farnborough Students took part in the annual Association of Colleges (AoC) National Championships in Nottingham.
Each student had qualified for the Championships through their sports regional Championships during the Autumn term. Whilst they represented the College, they were also a member of the AoC South East Regional team competing for medals and points against the nine other regions.
In the weeks leading up to the Championships Freya Yates was selected as the female captain for the South East Region making it two years in a row that a Farnborough student has been given this honour!
During the Opening Ceremony Freya was given the task of carrying in the National Championship trophy, The Wilkinson Sword, as the South East were the defending champions.
It was a very successful weekend for both our College and the South East Region as a whole:
Our Women’s Basketball team became National Champions as did our two badminton players (Charlotte Chalcraft and Zain Ahmed) as part of the combined South East Badminton team.
Also representing the College and the South East Region were Syd Vanstone (who narrowly missed medals in both the Mixed Endurance Relay, 4th, and Women’s Endurance Race, 6th) and Jake Walbancke in Tennis.
The final honour of the weekend was left to the person who opened proceedings - Freya Yates and the SE Male captain were re-presented with the Wilkinson Sword as the South East Region became the top region for the third year in a row.
For most sports here at the Sixth Form College Farnborough, the AoC National Finals are the pinnacle, so winning the National Title at these Championships is the ultimate goal each year.
Huge congratulations to everyone who took part and to our Farnborough team we are so proud of you – well done!
