Visit from Tansy Hargan

Tansy Hargan, a landscape architect and university tutor, recently visited the College for the day to run workshops with our first year fashion and textiles students.

The workshops focused on the viewfinder and thumbnail method enabling students to observe and connect with components of the landscape, which involves all the senses.  Students then developed and abstracted collage compositions using the grid format in larger sketchbooks.  The students were taught in groups and spent part of the time outside around the College site using the viewfinder method and drawing from direct observation.

This workshop links to the ‘Record’ element of students’ Component 1 coursework, and introduces a new and important skill that can be developed further into their projects.  The students' attentiveness and behaviour was exemplary; it was a very enjoyable and productive day.

Tansy Hargan said, “I ran three workshops with the amazing fashion and textiles students and staff.  They were fabulous to spend the day with; thank you so much for having me!  Have a lovely summer, and good luck for next year.”
