Our First Year students in the entrance way

Over the February half term, a number of students attended a week-long work experience placement at Philips healthcare in Farnborough. The week provided a broad and valuable insight into a variety of key business functions from project management to legal, giving students a fantastic ‘taster’ of different career areas.

A series of workshops and talks were run by staff and the students were given the opportunity to deliver presentations and receive feedback and advice. In advance of the week, students sent over their CV and the final day was spent reviewing these, looking at best practice in CV writing and then moving on to interview skills. Finally, students were given the opportunity to take part in a mock interview and receive valuable feedback, something they all found extremely beneficial.

A number of students commented that the breadth of the experience was very valuable to help inform their future career plans, or affirm their current plans.  Students said “we had regular opportunities to present our ideas, which really helped develop our presentation skills, this has helped to affirm our career choices and overall the experience was really useful”.

Following this amazing week, Philips have gone on to endorse our award winning Prospects Diploma of which work experience and employability skills are a main feature.
