This month we hosted students from Tomlinscote and Frimley Junior school, for a collaborative creative workshop with Author and Illustrator, Richy K Chandler, in honour of World Book Day.

Richy held a fully interactive session encouraging students to design their own storyboards and ‘quickfire’ sketches with a focus on  how details bring clarity to their ideas in order to tell a story. 

Much to the students and staff’s delight The Mayor of Rushmoor, Councillor John Marsh,was in attendance and  made speeches of support and ‘thanks,’ acknowledging the wonderful collaborative opportunity for the students from the Prospect Trust Schools. 

It wasn’t just staff who enjoyed the session with students branding the event “extremely fun” “inspiring” and “insightful”.

Andy Yarrow, Prospect Trust CEO, commented: “It was a delight to see pupils from Frimley C of E Junior School enthusiastically creating comic stories alongside students from Tomlinscote and the Sixth Form College Farnborough; a great example of the collaboration between schools and learners that the Prospect Trust is so keen to facilitate. Like the pupils and students, I was enthralled by the workshop and presentation given by talented writer, artist and comic creator Richy K Chandler. It was a privilege for us all to learn from his work and advice.”

Rebecca Rhodes, Assistant Principal discussed the importance of prioritising such events for the future:“To see an event involving all academies across the Trust, staff and students, was heart-warming. It showed how creating opportunities for us all to get together can be powerful and beneficial for all who take part.I hope this event it continues in years to come, growing so that more students and staff can experience the joy that comes from books”

All in all the event proved to be a success and is something we hope to continue next year.
