Our Y13 politics students had an opportunity to visit Westminster and see where the three branches of the government meet. Despite the rainy weather, we saw 10 Downing Street, the Supreme Court, and discussed the importance of the figures memorialised in Parliament Square. The highlight of the trip was a guided tour around the Houses of Parliament, where our personal tour guide explained the history of the building and how parliament functions.
Grace, second year student commented, 'I thought the Parliament trip was a very fun and informative outing. I liked that I was able to see different elements of politics that I had learnt about in the classroom in real life, for example being able to stand in the House of Commons and the House of Lords. Also, I found the explanations of the history and traditions of Parliament interesting - now that I know where the traditions came from they don’t seem so odd anymore. Overall, I found the trip an eye-opening and fun experience.'
Victoria Keitel, Curriculum Manager for Politics, reflected, 'The students were very engaged and showed off their politics knowledge on the tour, which allowed the guide to go into greater detail. Our 90 minute tour turned into a two hour one!'
