The annual Sports Awards Dinner took place on Tuesday 5th May with over 100 students and staff gathering to celebrate yet another successful year of sporting performance at the College. A round up of the year was given and awards were presented to each team marking their outstanding performances, whilst also recognising those individuals who have gone above and beyond.

This season’s highlights included the Hockey Team winning the Hampshire mixed league and reaching the final four of the National Cup; the Swimming team coming fourth at National Finals; the Men’s Basketball qualifying for the Premier League and finishing third; nine students competing in cross country, trampolining and swimming at National Championships, each coming home with a gold or silver medal.

The evening’s finale was the presentation of awards to students for their truly exceptional achievements in the field of sport.

The London Legacy Award was won by Nicole Benhura for her commitment and skills in voluntarily running the basketball score table for the Men’s Basketball team.

The Mike Ritchie Memorial Award for Outstanding Contribution to Sport was awarded to Gemma McArthur, who is a 2020 Olympic hopeful for High Diving. Gemma was also selected for the GB Junior and Senior Squads, as well as placing at European Junior Championships.

The award for Team of the Year went to the Men’s Basketball Team for raising the bar of competitive basketball at the College and challenging the academy Hampshire sides.

The Prestigious Sportswoman and Sportsman of the Year awards were won by Charlotte Daly and George Emmins. Charlotte has played Hockey for the College for two years and also represents England at both Under 21 and Under 18. George is a national swimmer and has represented the College at the English Schools National Finals and the AoC Sport National Championships both years. He also contributed to the South East winning gold at the National Championships, winning his individual races, and has been part of the fourth place College Relay Team at National Finals.

We have many dedicated athletes who represent the College week in week out delivering consistently high level performances alongside their studies and commitment to external clubs. The students are also very lucky to have passionate and devoted coaches who ensure the opportunities and experiences the students get are enjoyable as well as to a high standard.”
