Devices and Requirements

From September 2022, students will be using a tablet/laptop as part of their studies at College.  You should think of this as another tool in your pencil case which will complement handwritten work and provide access to countless digital resources to support your studies.

If you already have a suitable device at home, we encourage you to bring it into College with you.

There is no requirement to purchase a new device, however, if you wish to, the College can offer a leasing programme. Some of you may already have had experience of a lease model throughout secondary school.

If you are purchasing a new device independently, please ensure that you have noted the required specifications below.

The College will provide devices to those students that may not have the means to provide their own.

10 inch screen or bigger (that's the size of a regular iPad).  Your device might be a tablet or a laptop - your phone/mini tablet does not count as a device.

Your operating system should be either:

  • Google Chrome OS updated to latest version
  • Microsoft Windows 10 or later
  • Apple iPadOS 13 or later
  • Apple MacOS 11 or later

Your browser must be either:

  • Google Chrome
  • Microsoft Edge
  • 'Desktop class' Safari (available since iPadOS 13)

Your device battery needs to last at least six hours.  If your device charges using USB C or lightning, we will provide chargers in College.  If your device requires a different power adapter, you may be asked to have your charger PAT tested in College.

We strongly recommend you bring a device with touchscreen and stylus support for digital note taking and more.  However, if you have an otherwise fully functional device without a touch screen, please don't rush out and buy a new one!

Please bring wired or wireless headphones/earbuds with you every day to College.  It is also recommended you have a webcam/microphone built in to your device (almost all devices do).
