Performing Arts and Drama

Performing Arts and Drama enrichment offers an opportunity for those that do not take a performance subject to get involved, and for those that do to deepen and extend their skills and experiences.  We offer a number of exciting opportunities including:

Flexi-Crew are our dedicated technicians who work on a host of backstage roles in support of the many performances that take place within the department and beyond.

You will work alongside our technical theatre technicians and gain experience in working with stage management, sound, lighting, costume, props and set design. The first term involves working technically on our Christmas Production which in previous years has included: The Wedding Singer, Shrek The Musical, Mary Poppins and Around the World in 80 Days.

Terms two and three involve a Theatre Production which in the past have included The Crucible and A Matter of Life and Death and a showcase in May of musical theatre numbers - previously students have performed songs from Cabaret, Mean Girls, Back to the Future, Legally Blonde, Wicked, Oliver, Bonnie and Clyde and more. In addition to this and dependent on availability, there are opportunities to support other performances that take place within the department such as examination performances, music concerts and our annual awards ceremony.

Flexi-Crew will be capped at 20-25 students with the selection process including a statement of interest. Everyone who attends the first Flexi-Crew session will be set a task to complete a statement including information of past technical experience and their want to join our team.

The Musical Theatre enrichment group is intended for all those that love musical theatre or want to be involved in a full-scale production.  Whilst there are auditions, everyone is guaranteed a role and the experience is very much focused on including everyone in an ensemble production.

During the first term, the group rehearses and prepares for the College’s Christmas production.  Previous plays and musicals have included: The Wedding Singer, Mary Poppins and Bye, Bye Birdie.  The show encompasses all three disciplines - acting, singing and dance.

Following this, we work on a variety of musical theatre pieces for a showcase performance in May.  Previous performances have included songs from Cabaret, Ghost and Mean Girls to name a few.

Here at the College, we run our very own theatre company called The Prospect Theatre Company.

Being part of this company involves a performance in the Spring term and preparing a theatre skills workshop which we take into schools.  The skills workshop is led by students who deliver it to GCSE Drama students in the local area during the Autumn and Spring term.  Previous productions have included The House of Bernarda Alba, Scuttlers and The Street of Crocodiles.  All students are eligible to audition for this company in September.

Please note the LAMDA Award is for second year students only.

London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art offer a short qualification in Acting - this is fantastic preparation for drama school auditions and for those with a general interest in the area who want to improve their skills and confidence. We run Gold (Level 8) in Acting and the award attract UCAS points.

It is entirely practical and involves choosing three acting speeches. Students will be coached through the preparation and rehearsal of these and will eventually perform the piece to an external examiner.  There is also a knowledge component where you will be questioned on a practitioner of your choice and how you have applied their principles to the pieces you have chosen.

LAMDA is one period a week and involves group exercises, individual coaching with group and individual work-shares.  Once you have completed the practical examination, you can expect to hear your result within six weeks, which is graded on a pass, merit or distinction basis.
