Personal Tutors

Here at Farnborough, we are proud of our unique pastoral care provision, which ensures that all of our students are supported personally as well as academically.

When you join the College, you will be assigned a Personal Tutor who will be with you throughout your two years here.  Wherever possible, this will be the person who interviews you when you apply.  Simply put, your Personal Tutor is your rock during your time at Farnborough, listening, challenging and supporting you to achieve your very best.

We have a team of specialist Personal Tutors, all of whom are experienced post-16 teachers.  Research shows that using professional Personal Tutors to provide support is the most effective model in terms of enabling students to achieve their best.

You will be assigned to a tutor group where you and fellow students, from a mixture of secondary schools, will have a timetabled weekly tutorial with your Personal Tutor.  Don't worry if you are the only person from your school - at the beginning of term, tutorials are focused on getting to know everyone in your group.

Each tutorial forms part of an overall programme which is packed with activities designed to help you get the most out of College.  Tutorials include:

  • Settling into College
  • Personal learning skills
  • Life/health skills
  • Reviewing your progress
  • Career planning
